Middle Eastern carrier Oman Air's chief executive, Wayne Pearce, is stepping down from his post at the end of February.

The Muscat-based carrier has not given a reason for his decision, two years after he was named to head the airline.

But it states that Pearce oversaw a "key phase" in the airline's development, driving expansion on important routes and increasing its revenues.

"All the vital elements are now in place for the next phase of our growth, while also safeguarding continued increases in passenger numbers," says Oman Air chairman Darwish bin Ismael bin Ali Al Balushi.

Oman Air has yet to name a successor to Pearce.
