Middle Eastern carrier Oman Air is to introduce Airbus A330 services to London Heathrow from 1 May, and will also deploy the type on its Bangkok route on 17 May.

The carrier is acquiring seven A330s to modernise its long-haul fleet. It expects to take delivery of four more of the type later this year.

Oman Air last year transported 31% more passengers in 2008 than during the previous year, a total of 1.98 million.

But the carrier says: "While the passenger volumes are encouraging, our yields remain under pressure and, at the end of the day, that's what really counts."

Oman Air adds, however, that it has seen strong growth on Saudi Arabian routes as well as services to Amman, Beirut, Dubai and Kuwait.
