Oneworld would welcome TAM as a member, as the Brazilian carrier's parent LATAM Airlines group reviews its alliance strategy.

TAM, which is a Star Alliance member, merged with Chile's LAN Airlines to form LATAM in June and is undergoing a review of the group's alliance strategy before making a decision on what - if any - alliance to be a part of.

"We firmly believe that Oneworld offers by far the best alliance proposition for LATAM, and we have made it clear that TAM would be very welcome to join LAN in Oneworld," says Willie Walsh, chief executive of International Airlines Group (IAG), at an event announcing Qatar Airways entry into the Oneworld alliance in New York on 8 October.

Enrique Cueto, executive vice-president and chief executive of LATAM, has said that the group is likely to make a decision on alliances by the end of the year.
