The Lindbergh Foundation, in conjunction with Lycoming Engines, has announced a grant to look at reducing noise of aircraft using high-frequency sound waves.
Prof Ganesh Raman of Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, has been awarded the 2008 Lindbergh-Lycoming Grant to develop an active high frequency flow control system for engines. This will produce a noise inaudible to the human ear and will hopefully assist in the reduction of noise pollution around airports.
