Philippine Airlines (PAL) president Ramon Ang says talks regarding a possible partnership with All Nippon Airways (ANA) are still underway, dismissing local reports that the discussions had been dropped.
Media reports from Philippines quoted Ang saying investment discussions with ANA have been halted, but that the two carriers are still pursuing a codeshare agreement.
When contacted, Ang told Flightglobal Pro: "PAL is still in talks with ANA."
He declined to say more, explaining that the two parties "have a confidentiality agreement".
Last July, San Miguel Corporation, which holds a 49% stake in PAL, said it has held preliminary discussions with ANA over a possible partnership.
Late last year, media reports in the country also quoted Ang hinting that it was close to reaching a deal with a foreign partner. This sparked speculation that ANA was close to making an investment in PAL.
PAL Holdings later clarified that it has not received any offers from the Japanese carrier.
When contacted, ANA would only say: “We don’t have any comments for market rumours.”
