Indian carrier Paramount Airways has signed a memorandum of understanding to purchase 10 Airbus A321 aircraft.

The Chennai-based operator sealed the agreement during the Paris Air Show.

It has not given an engine selection for the twin-jets, nor has a prospective delivery date been disclosed.

Paramount Airways managing director M Thiagarajan says the pact is an "important and strategic landmark in our expansion plans".

It intends to launch services from southern India with the aircraft.

If Paramount firms the agreement it will become a new customer for the European airframer. The carrier currently operates Embraer regional jets.
