ATR announced for 28 new aircraft orders in the first half of 2009, bringing its programme to 998 aircraft booked.
In the first half of this year, ATR sold four ATR42s, including two ATR42-600s for Royal Air Maroc and two ATR42-500s to an undisclosed customer.
Alenia for Italian Navy and Royal Air Maroc placed ordered four ATR72-600 each while the manufacturer increased its presence in Africa with Afrijet Airlines with a four ATR72-500 aircraft order.
Undisclosed customers accounted for two additional ATR72-500s as well as 10 ATR72-600s.
Commenting on the orders, CEO's Stéphane Mayer says: "The announcement of bookings for 28 new aircraft in the first half of the year is a clear message of confidence of our customers in the ATR product, and underlines that our aircraft are optimally positioned to answer the current and future needs of regional operators".
He also noted that the new -600 series order book stands already at 59 orders and the customer response has been very positive to the new developments.
ATR expects 2,700 deliveries in the regional turboprop market, over the next two decades.
