Israel's Aeronautics Defense Systems Orbiter-3 unmanned air vehicle is to make its first test flight in August. The Orbiter-3 UAV will have a 3.6m (11.8ft) wingspan and up to 8h endurance.
It will operate with a Controp-developed 3kg (6.6lb) electro-optical payload that has a laser pointer. According to Aeronautics president Avi Leumi, Orbiter-3 is designed for operation on naval vessels.
It is launched by catapult and lands on the water using a combination of parachute and airbags that also serve as floating devices.
Leumi added that the payload will be water proof and that the Orbiter-3 will be ready for another launch shortly after recovery.
