Emirates plans to construct an engine repair and overhaul facility in Dubai valued at around $120 million.

The 90,000m2 (96,900ft2) engine shop, will complement its existing test cell facility. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2012 followed by opening of the facility in 2014.

Emirates said the new overhaul site should have the capacity to complete 300 engine repairs annually for GE90 and Engine Alliance GP7000 engines.

GE has signed a letter of intent with Emirates to oversee design and construction of the new facility.
