LAN Airlines has selected General Electric's CF6-80C2 engines to power its 14 firm and four optioned Boeing 767 aircraft.
Delivery of the engines will begin later this year. The engine order is valued at more than $400 million at list prices.
The CF6-80C2 engine incorporates the Tech CF6 programme, which includes advanced airfoil cooling technology into the high-pressure turbine (HPT). This is standard on all CF6-80C2 production engines.
Ignacio Cueto, COO and president, LAN Airlines, said: "This investment will further enhance LAN's 767 family aircraft, reinforces our commitment to our passengers, and supports our programme of fleet renewal and expansion, designed to allow us to operate the world's most modern and safest aircraft and to achieve savings on fuel and maintenance."
LAN currently operates 40 CF6-powered 767 passenger and freighter aircraft.
