LATAM sees opportunities to grow its South American network by linking poorly connected cities, especially secondary cities in Brazil, says its chief operating officer.

"We have created the largest company in South America, we think the market is quite underdeveloped and we see many cities that are poorly connected, particularly secondary cities, so our goal is to provide connectivity to the region," Roberto Alvo told Flightglobal Pro at the Paris air show.

Alvo says there is very little overlap between LAN and TAM's networks, making it a "merger of growth" and allowing LATAM to develop "new routes in the region". He rules out any change to the carrier's twin-hub operation operating out of São Paulo and Lima, but adds: "We are looking at expanding operations out of these bases."
