Royal Brunei Airlines is set to reveal a new codeshare deal with "a major carrier in Southeast Asia" within the next week.

Dermot Mannion, Royal Brunei's deputy chairman, told Flightglobal Pro at the Paris air show that the airline is preparing for "quite an important codeshare" in the coming days, adding that it would cover regional markets in Asia.

He also hinted that the carrier would add routes to markets such as Japan and South Korea, describing them as "strategically important markets" for Royal Brunei.

But the carrier is "cautious" about any future long-haul growth, having cut a number of unprofitable services in the last two years, says Mannion.
