Passenger traffic at BAA airports up 0.7% in June

Passenger numbers at BAA's five UK airports increased 0.7% year-on-year to 9.07 million in June, while total aircraft movements fell 1.8% to 70,100.

Among its London airports, Heathrow saw a 1.6% increase in passenger numbers to 6.25 million, while at Stansted footfall was down 3.4% to 1.63 million.

Both the London gateways saw a fall in aircraft movements, with Heathrow posting a 0.7% decline and Stansted posting a 5.2% decline.

Among its other UK airports, Southampton posted a 7.5% decline in passenger numbers, while Glasgow and Aberdeen witnessed increases of 4.5% and 1.3% respectively.

Glasgow was the only one of the three to post an increase in aircraft movements - up by 3.6% - while Southampton and Aberdeen saw declines of 8.1% and 3.6% respectively.

Total cargo at BAA's five airports increased marginally by 0.2% to 144,300t, propped up by strong growth at the two Scottish bases.
