Two passengers remain hospitalised after severe turbulence injured 20 on board a South African Airways service to Hong Kong.

Three crew members and 17 passengers were injured during the encounter which involved an Airbus A340-300 flight from Johannesburg.

South African Airways says the two passengers who remain in hospital for observation had “sustained serious injuries”.

Another 18 have since been discharged. The aircraft had been operating flight SA286 on 15 July and, as a consequence, the return service, SA287 from Hong Kong on 16 July, has been delayed.
