An investigation is underway into an incident at Lahore's Allama Iqbal International Airport involving a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) ATR 42-500 (AP-BHJ) that skidded off the runway while landing in heavy rain on the morning of 1 September 2012.
The aircraft, carrying 42 passengers and four crew, was operating on the Islamabad-Lahore route. The carrier said there were no injuries.
The aircraft's right main landing gear collapsed in the incident, said the airline. Images in Pakistan media show the aircraft resting on its right side, with its right wing and turboprop on the ground. Apart from the collapsed landing gear, PIA has yet to determine the full extent of the damage.
Because the airport only has a single runway, the damaged aircraft disrupted operations for the rest of the day. The aircraft was later removed to a hangar, and normal flight operations resumed.
Weather conditions in northern Pakistan are challenging at this time of year, the carrier added.
