Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has approached the leasing market and widebody operators with a tender for the lease of two aircraft on a dry lease basis.
According to the terms of the tender, obtained by Flightglobal, the widebody aircraft will be leased for a period of five years from January 2013 onwards. PIA will have the option to terminate the contract after three years by giving three months' notice in advance.
PIA is seeking offers for 2003-vintage, or younger aircraft, that have between 300 and 400 seats, in a two-class configuration.
Proposals are due 31 October.
PIA sent a request for proposal for the dry lease of two 777 aircraft earlier this year with bids due in the summer. The carrier received two proposals from AirSpeed Charter and ALAFCO but the bidding process was cancelled last month.
PIA's widebody fleet includes six 747-200/300s, seven 777-200s, two 777-300s and 12 Airbus A310s, according to Flightglobal's Ascend online database. In February, the carrier placed an order for five 777-300ERs in a deal that includes purchase rights for a further five of the General Electric GE90-115BL-powered type. Deliveries are scheduled for 2015.
