Stefan Pichler has been named as the new managing director and chief executive of Fiji Airways.
Pichler will assume the role on 1 September, taking over Aubrey Swift, who will remain as acting chief executive until 31 August.
Pichler is the chief executive of Kuwaiti carrier Jazeera Airways since June 2009. Prior to that, he was chief commercial officer at Virgin Blue, now known as Virgin Australia, where he was responsible for its transformation from a low-cost carrier into a network airline.
"Mr. Pichler is taking charge as the momentum for progress is already in place - a solid partnership among all the staff of the airline, all interested in the same thing - the continued success of Fiji Airways," says Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Fiji's attorney general and minister for civil aviation.
