Stefan Pichler formally assumed the position of managing director and chief executive at Fiji Airways on 6 September.

Prior to his latest appointment, Pichler spent four years as chief executive of Kuwait-based low-cost carrier Jazeera Airways. He was also formerly the chief commercial officer of Virgin Blue.

"Following the recent record breaking financial year in terms of revenue and passenger numbers, I am confident this new era will see Fiji Airways cement their place in the industry," says Pichler.

Previous managing director David Pflieger retired in May this year at the end of his contract. In the interim, the airline's chief commercial officer Aubrey Swift was appointed as the airline's acting chief executive.
