Libyan carrier Afriqiyah Airways has taken delivery of its first Airbus A330-200, one of three ordered by the operator in 2006.

Afriqiyah's aircraft is configured with 230 seat in two classes. Last year the carrier opted for General Electric CF6 engines on the type.

It has previously indicated that it will open long-haul routes to destinations including Beijing, Guangzhou, Manila and Johannesburg.

Tripoli-based Afriqiyah plans to take the remaining pair of A330s this year. The airline already uses a fleet of Airbus narrowbody aircraft, comprising five A320s and a pair of A319s.

Afriqiyah is also a customer for the Airbus A350-800, with six on order, and will also take another 10 A320s.
