EADS' German aerostructure subsidiary Premium Aerotec has manufactured the first titanium attachments for the Airbus A350 main landing gear at its plant in Augsburg.
One shipset consists of six attachments as each main landing gear is connected to the rear wing spar at three positions.
The precision components are milled out of forged blanks at a total weight of almost 600kg (1,320lb), with approximately two thirds of the original material being cut away during the process.
Depending on the aircraft variant, the final shipset weighs up to 210kg.
The manufacturer also supplies a number of composite components to the A350 programme, including the front fuselage section 13/14, side shells for the rear fuselage, floor structure and rear pressure bulkhead.
