Qantas has filed an application with the International Air Services Commission (IASC) to continue its codeshare agreement with South African Airways (SAA).

The carrier wants to continue codesharing with SAA on its Sydney-Johannesburg route.

It is requesting an interim authorisation that will allow codeshare arrangements to continue until 31 March 2013, to give the IASC adequate time to consider its new application.

Its current codeshare approval expires on 31 December.

To effectively operate and market seats, the airlines need at least seven months of certainty in relation to the codeshare arrangements following any decision made by the IASC, says Qantas.
