Qantas launched services between Sydney and Hamilton Island, the main airport of Whitsunday Islands, on 2 July.

The service is operated twice weekly during off-peak periods, and thrice weekly during the peak seasons, says the airline. It did not specify the type of aircraft it is operating into Hamilton Island.

“Our customers told us that they wanted direct access to the Whitsundays on a premium leisure service from Sydney. Today we respond to that demand and complement Jetstar’s existing flights as part of our two-brand strategy,” says the carrier’s domestic chief executive Lyell Strambi.

FlightMaps Analytics shows that Qantas operates alongside Jetstar Airways and Virgin Australia on the Sydney-Hamilton Island route. Hamilton Island is also connected to Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne and Sydney.
