Qantas Airways will serve the Melbourne-Darwin route from May 2011.

Australia's flag carrier will begin with a thrice-weekly service, and increase this to four times weekly from June 2011. It will operate its Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the service, adds the Oneworld carrier,

This new service will complement the 11-times weekly service operated by its low cost subsidiary Jetstar.

Tiger Airways has a four-times weekly service on the route, while Virgin Blue operates a seven-times weekly service, according to schedules in Innovata.
