Qantas Airways has applied for permission to codeshare on Emirates' services from Singapore to Colombo.

According to an application filed with Australia's International Air Services Commission, Qantas is seeking an allocation of 300 seats per week to place its code on Emirates services between Singapore and Colombo from 31 March.

The Australian carrier is seeking a five-year allocation, to be fully utilised by 31 March 2014.

According to Innovata schedules, Emirates flies daily services between Singapore and Colombo, competing with SriLankan Airlines, Tiger Airways, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific on the route.

Qantas and Emirates will begin their wide-ranging alliance on 31 March, under which the two carriers will cooperate on international services between Australia, Europe and Asia, subject to final regulatory approval.
