Qatar Airways appears to be planning a new route from Doha to German city Dusseldorf.

The Gulf carrier currently serves Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich in Germany. In March 2011, the airline also started serving Stuttgart, but that route – which later included a stopover in Zurich – was abandoned the following year.

Dusseldorf airport says that Qatar Airways is showing “interest” in establishing a route to the city in Germany’s most populous state, North Rhine-Westphalia, which covers a number of large cities including Cologne.

The airline declines to comment on the route evaluations.

Germany's bilateral air transport agreement with Qatar was amended in mid-2010 to increase the number of flights by Qatar Airways to Germany from 21 to 35 services per week. The airline can fly to five German airports under the agreement, which was originally signed in 1996.

Qatar Airways abandoned the route to Stuttgart in October 2012 due to lack for sufficient frequency scope, Stuttgart airport says.
