Qatar Airways is set to join the Oneworld alliance on 30 October, just a year after being invited to become a member.
The alliance has confirmed the Middle Eastern carrier's accession, following its sponsorship by British Airways.
"This will make its induction into Oneworld one of the fastest in the alliance's history," says the airline group. "Normally it takes around 18 months for any airline to be readied to enter any alliance."
Qatar Airways will join the alliance just before it transfers to Doha's new hub at Hamad international airport.
"We have quickly established a reputation for innovation, quality and excellence in everything we do," says Qatar Airways chief Akbar Al Baker. "We are pleased to build on that by becoming the only major airline from the Gulf to date to be joining any of the global airline alliances."
