British defence technology company QinetiQ has purchased a BAE Systems Avro RJ70 aircraft from Braathens Aviation in a transaction arranged by aviation remarketing company Skyworld Aviation.

The 1994-vintage aircraft, MSN E1254, was previously operated by Malmo Aviation.

This acquisition comes after QinetiQ purchased an Avro RJ100 in late 2011, which is currently undergoing maintenance and modification at Avalon Aero at Cranfield, UK. The Avro RJ70 will also undergo significant modification prior to being utilised for test and evaluation training in QinetiQ's Empire Test Pilots' School (ETPS), alongside the RJ100.
