Search teams are still looking for traces of the missing Air France Airbus A330, having determined that a recovered cargo pallet was not from the aircraft.

Naval vessels in the search vicinity have been retrieving debris for closer examination but none of the wreckage has been positively linked to the jet.

Analysis of a cargo pallet recovered during the search, originally thought to be used for air freight, "does not belong to flight AF447", says the Brazilian defence ministry.

It states that military aircraft completed coverage of a total area of the South Atlantic amounting to more than 185,000km² yesterday.

"Throughout the day aircraft continually sighted isolated debris in the search area, such as buoys and oil stains," it adds. "Everything that was located on the ocean surface deserved attention from the aircraft."
