Virgin Atlantic will move its Japanese operation from Tokyo Narita to Haneda from spring 2014.

The UK-based carrier says this is in response to Haneda's redevelopment of its international terminal and the availability of slots for long-haul traffic.

Virgin will deploy one of its initial Boeing 787s on the daily service from London Heathrow, it adds.

A codeshare agreement with Japanese airline will ensure its passengers are still able to reach Narita, it says.

British Airways already competes on the London Heathrow-Tokyo Haneda route with a five-days-a-week service.
