Rajiv Gandhi International airport (RGIA) at Hyderabad has inaugurated its second runway.

GMR Hyderabad International airport Ltd (GHIAL), the operator of RGIA, has obtained the necessary Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) clearances, making it the first greenfield airport in the region with two runways.

The new parallel runway is 3,700m long and is code-E aircraft compliant.

With the introduction of the second runway, RGIA can continue flight operations without interruptions during its regular main runway maintenance on Tuesdays. In addition, the continuity of flight operations on Tuesdays will enhance airside efficiency, thus making passenger transit through RGIA convenient, GHIAL said.
