The distinction of having the largest aircraft on show at the Royal International Air Tattoo as usual fell to the crew of the ubiquitous Lockheed C-5 strategic transport, but the US Air Force's Galaxy was usurped in the skies this year by a commercial giant making a flying appearance.
Oasis Hong Kong Airlines' third Boeing 747-400 was a first-time visitor to the show on 15 July, and performed an impressive low-speed display before landing at Fairford for public inspection alongside the C-5.
Previously operated by All Nippon Airways from March 1999 and now registered as B-LFC, the aircraft was delivered to Oasis in April, according to Flight's ACAS database. The low-fare, long-haul airline conducted its first revenue flight last October and has now completed more than 400 trips between London Gatwick and Hong Kong. It also added a new route between Hong Kong and Vancouver, Canada late last month.
