Rockwell Collins will be one of the key members from the aviation industry to play a role on a team led by ITT Corporation to enable development of advanced concepts for FAA's Next Generation Air traffic system (NextGen) initiative.
The scheme is aimed at modernising the USA' national airspace system.
Rockwell with other members of the industry will work collectively to help meet the obligations of the FAA contract, titled System Engineering 2020 (SE2020). Under the contract, the team will conduct concept development work across all dimensions of air traffic control, including ground systems, avionics, aircraft, air traffic control rules and procedures, human factors, safety and security, environmental and standards.
Kent Statler, COO of commercial systems for Rockwell Collins says: "Rockwell Collins is aiming to help bring forth practical implementations of technology that will help facilitate the much needed changes to NextGen."
