Leasing giant International Lease Finance (ILFC) has selected Rolls-Royce (R-R) to power 40 of the 74 Boeing 787s it has on order in a deal announced on the eve of the aircraft’s roll-out in Seattle.
The twinjets will be powered by R-R’s Trent 1000 engines in a deal that the UK engine-maker values at $1.3 billion at list price and says is its biggest single order from ILFC. They will be delivered between 2010 and 2017.
R-R says: “[This deal] supersedes a previous agreement for 10 firm aircraft announced during the Farnborough International Air show in July 2006.”
CEO John Rose says in a statement that the aircraft will be “placed with operators around the world”.
The 787 being rolled-out tomorrow is fitted with Trents, but the aircraft is also powered by the General Electric GEnx which ILFC previously selected for 24 firm and optioned 787s.
The Trent 1000 was first flown on a test-bed Boeing 747 last month.
