Italian investigators have opened an inquiry after a ramp worker was killed at Rome Fiumicino during flight loading.

The accident occurred after a TAP Portugal Airbus A320 arrived in Rome on 11 November.

Italian accident investigation authority ANSV says the crew was still on board the aircraft when ground personnel positioned a loading vehicle against the jet's baggage compartment door.

During this positioning, it says, the moving platform bumped against the open door "causing the death of the operator".

ANSV adds that the accident also damaged the structure of the 12-year old aircraft (CS-TNL). It says it has started an inquiry into the event.
