Russian state holding Rostekhnologii has complemented its agreement for up to 85 Boeing 737 aircraft with the signature of a deal covering acquisition of 50 United Aircraft MS-21s from Irkut.
At a ceremony attended by Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin - who has recently been critical of Aeroflot's lack of interest in Russian-built aircraft - Rostekhnologii agreed to acquire the MS-21s over 2016-22.
Rostekhnologii says the agreement clears the way for a contract for MS-21 supply to be signed before the end of December this year.
"The contract to supply MS-21s will facilitate the development of advanced technologies in Russia," says the firm.
Irkut president Oleg Demchenko says that, as a result of the agreement, Rostekhnologii becomes the largest domestic customer for its aircraft, adding that the MS-21 has secured agreements covering 190 aircraft.
