UPS plans to focus future acquisition plans on non-aviation related assets, following its disappointment when its bid to take over TNT Express was blocked by the European Commission.
UPS Airlines’ global network planning manager Todd Scott says there are some “smaller acquisitions” the freight company is looking at, but they are mostly companies that are not aviation-related.
“We put a lot of time and resources into looking at TNT,” he says at Routes Americas in San Salvador. “It would have been a very good deal for us.”
UPS is now “more cautious” when it comes to possibly acquiring larger companies, he adds.
The freight company withdrew its offer for TNT Express in January 2013 after the EC blocked the takeover, citing competition concerns.
