Russian provincial carrier Orenburzhye is looking to acquire three Antonov An-148 regional jets.

Orenburg's regional government will sponsor the purchase using local and federal funds allocated for the development of intra-regional passenger services.

"The timeframe is between one and two years," it says. "We're already studying related proposals from lessors and crew-training issues."

In April, the local administration established wholly owned Orenburzhye with five leased Let L-410 turboprops. The carrier provides regular services from Orenburg and Orsk to administrative centres of eight nearby regions.

General manager Sergei Kalinovsky says the An-148s will enable it to increase frequencies and operate on longer routes.
