Russia's Sberbank and its subsidiary Sberbank Leasing have agreed to purchase 12 Boeing 737-800s to be operated by Transaero on an operational lease.

The deal is worth more than $1 billion at list prices, says Boeing.

"The agreement that we have reached today marks a very significant step forward and is evidence of Sberbank's commitment to aviation financing," says Herman Gref, chief executive and chairman of the board of Sberbank. "Sberbank will use our new 737-800s to give our corporate customers the best service available in the aircraft leasing industry."

Transaero is one of the bank's key customers. Sberbank is the largest bank in Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States. Sberbank Leasing was founded in 1993.
