Rwandan flag-carrier RwandAir is in discussions to acquire medium- and long-haul aircraft next year, although the carrier is yet to make a type selection.
The airline has been expanding its fleet with the acquisition of two Bombardier CRJ200 regional jets.
But as part of a $13.5 million aviation financing agreement with the Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank, the carrier is planning to expand its fleet further.
RwandAir chief Gerald Zirimwabagabo says the carrier is in "advanced" negotiations with suppliers for medium- to long-range aircraft.
The carrier adds that it plans a "considerable" expansion of its fleet over the next five years.
RwandAir's agreement with the Burundi-based development bank - also known as the PTA Bank, from historic ties to the Preferential Trade Area bloc - will also include financial support for other related infrastructure investments.
