Irish budget carrier Ryanair is beginning the search for a successor to deputy chief Michael Cawley, who is to step down from his post at the end of March next year.

The airline says Cawley wants to "pursue other business interests" including non-executive board positions.

Ryanair has not identified a successor candidate but says Cawley will spend the next 10 months ensuring a "smooth handover".

He has accepted an offer to take a non-executive directorial position on the Ryanair board from 1 May 2014.
