Ryanair pilots have voted to change the way how they are represented before the airline's management.

The current system was devised by the company's management. But around 95% of the Irish budget carrier's voting pilots elected in a recent ballot to abandon the existing scheme immediately.

It was the first ballot which covered all pilots - be it directly employed staff or contractors - from all operational bases, says organiser Ryanair Pilot Group.

Nearly all participating pilots voted for a new representative system, which will be developed by the group itself and covers all flight crew independently from their contract type, rank and operational base.

RPG says that this will enable pilots to raise issues regarding safety, pay and working conditions in "respectful negotiations" with the management, and "make collective decisions without fear of intimidation or coercion".

The group plans to conduct more ballots in early 2013.
