Ryanair will cancel eight services from its Edinburgh base in October 2012, leading to the loss of 60 weekly flights.

The destinations which will no longer be served by the low-cost carrier from Edinburgh are Bratislava, Bremen, Frankfurt, Fuerteventura, Gothenburg, Kaunas, Lodz and Poznan.

Ryanair says that the route cuts will bring down its annual passenger numbers at the base from 1.8 million to 1.3 million, contributing to the loss of 500 on-site jobs.

In February, the airline axed five routes from its summer schedule at the Edinburgh base, citing a breakdown in talks with airport operator BAA over airport fees.
