Star Alliance partners South African Airways and US Airways are seeking codeshare authority for flights between the USA, Europe and South Africa.
South African would place the US Airways code on its flights between New York's John F. Kennedy and Washington Dulles airports and South Africa, between Frankfurt, London and Munich and Johannesburg, and on flights within South Africa beyond Johannesburg if approved, according to a filing with the US Department of Transportation.
US Airways would place the South African code on its flights beyond New York and Washington, as well as between London and Philadelphia, according to the filing.
The South African flag carrier also requested authority to name Philadelphia as one of its six allowed US gateways, and to name Atlanta to one of its 25 named codeshare-only beyond destinations in the USA, in the filing.
Atlanta, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and Washington are South African's US gateways, however, the airline only has regularly scheduled flights to Dulles and JFK.
