Air New Zealand's wholly owned subsidiary, Safe Air, is looking at restructuring its business, a move that could lead to 80 job cuts.

The MRO company has supported upgrades of the Royal New Zealand Air Force's C-130 Hercules and P3 Orion aircraft fleets since 2005.

"As these programmes are concluded over the coming 12 months, it is necessary to reposition the business for reduced future work flow," it adds.

Safe Air has thus entered into consultation with its employees over a proposed restructuring plan that could cut positions across the business, including those in the management, support and production segments.
