SAS Group has signed an agreement to lease five new Boeing 737-800s from GECAS as the airline phases out its MD80 and Boeing 737 Classic aircraft from bases in Stockholm and Oslo.
In addition SAS signed an MOU for the lease of 12 Boeing 737-700s from the lessor.
SAS says the lease arrangements "implicate that there will be limited aircraft investments (CAPEX) in 2011".
In line with SAS strategy to streamline its fleet, a decision has been made to also phase out MD80 aircraft from its Copenhagen base and replace them with Airbus A320s. The replacement will start in 2012 and is expected to be completed by 2016.
