SAS Group is to wet-lease four new ATR 72-600s for regional services out of Copenhagen and Stockholm from the next winter season.

It has signed a preliminary agreement with Danish operator Jet Time for the four turboprops which, if firmed, would run for three years.

The aircraft would be operated out of the Swedish and Danish capitals over the winter 2013-14 season as well as through summer 2014, says SAS.

"An agreement will give us greater flexibility in our fleet, and ensure that we can achieve an even more optimal organization of our regional production," says SAS vice-president of operations Flemming Jensen.

The ATRs will be capable of carrying 72 passengers. SAS will retain its wet-lease arrangements with Cimber and Braathens Regional, saying the new arrangement will not have "any immediate impact".

"We look forward to being able to carry out the interesting and challenging work that lies ahead," states Jet Time chief Klaus Ren.
