Shanghai Airlines is to join Star Alliance, making it the first Chinese carrier to become a member of the multilateral airline grouping. Airline sources say there will be a ceremony in Shanghai on 10 May to mark its accession. The carrier codeshares with Star members All Nippon Airways and Lufthansa. Air China was the first to develop ties with Star carriers and had been touted as the frontrunner to join.
