Singapore Airlines (SIA) will order eight more Boeing 777-300ERs to support growth plans for the coming year.

The carrier will operate the aircraft on medium and long-haul routes. The order is valued at $2.3 billion at list prices, said SIA.

Deliveries of the aircraft are scheduled to begin in the 2013/14 financial year.

The aircraft will be powered by General Electric GE90 engines and will join 19 777-300ERs already in service. They will be configured in a three-class layout featuring the airline's latest cabin product and service offerings.

Currently, SIA's fleet comprises 106 widebody aircraft from Airbus and Boeing. With this deal for eight additional 777-300ERs, the airline will have firm purchase or lease orders with the two manufacturers for another 70 aircraft. These include Boeing 787s and Airbus A350s and A330s.
