Singapore Airlines (SIA) has postponed the introduction of Airbus A380 aircraft on its Singapore-Los Angeles flights via Tokyo Narita, following the earthquake in Japan on 11 March.
The Star Alliance carrier had earlier announced it would roll out the A380 on the flights from late March, but says it is postponing this until further notice. "The flights will continue to be operated with Boeing 747-400 aircraft," says SIA.
SIA operates daily between Singapore and Los Angeles via Tokyo Narita, but will now make an additional stop at Osaka Kansai after Tokyo with effect from today until 22 March.
"This is to ensure that our crew have sufficient rest, as aftershocks are still being experienced in Tokyo," says SIA.
All of the airline's flights to and from Japan are operating, it adds.
