Siberia-based operator Tomsk Avia is to take leases on three Bombardier CRJ200 aircraft as part of its fleet renewal efforts.

The state-owned regional carrier expects delivery of the first jet in February 2012, with Rb650 million ($20 million) allocated for acquiring the batch.

General manager Viktor Marjenkin said its pilots and technical personnel would undergo fast-track training in France ahead of the aircraft handover to Tomsk Avia.

The carrier also intends to spend a further Rb95 million on fitting its six Antonov An-24 turboprops with new collision avoidance systems.

Referring to a series of air accidents in Russia this year, Marjenkin said: "These aircraft need to be thoroughly modernised in order to meet enhanced safety requirements and remain in service."
